Wachovia offers asset-secured loans that can provide more leverage than margin loans while offering extremely competitive fixed and adjustable rates.
Using debt wisely can help you create wealth. Refinancing high-interest debt can reduce monthly payments, freeing up cash to invest. Borrowing against your securities while staying invested allows you to sell stocks according to your investment plan rather than your liquidity needs, and avoid potential negative tax consequences.

Estate Planning & Trust Services
We develop an effective wealth transfer plan and regularly review your estate plan to ensure it continues to meet your changing needs and cir cumstances.
Preserving assets takes on more importance when you think of your loved ones. Once you have built substantial assets for your family, careful use of an estate plan and a personal trust can ensure that they benefit from your hard work.
Estate taxes can be as high as 50%, and can go higher in some cases, making the US Treasury your biggest beneficiary if you do no estate planning. A trust can also ensure that you, not the prevailing law in your state, decide who benefits from your assets. Estate planning and a trust can also help ease the burden on your family if you become disabled and unable to manage your own affairs.
How do you protect your family and your assets? A personal trust is often the most economical and efficient way. A trust can be used to reduce the estate-tax burden by removing assets from an estate. In addition, it provides the ability to direct assets to the beneficiaries of your choice, even after death or disability, through the instructions included in the trust documents. A trust can also help pass on illiquid assets that would otherwise have to be sold to pay the estate taxes.
Another important reason to have a trust is to avoid the costs and delays of probate, which are not necessarily avoided through a will. Probate can often, depending on state law, cost up to 6% of the estate and take up to two years to complete, tying up family assets when they may be most needed.
You may want to consider a trust if any of these circumstances apply to you:
-
You have children from a previous marriage
-
You want to protect your assets and the privacey of your holdings
-
The delay of probate will make it financially difficult for your family
-
Your will could be contested by relatives or a former spouse
-
You want help managing your affairs if you need it, but do not have someone who could step in
-
You have dependents who will need care beyond your lifetime, like a disabled child
-
Your heirs may not agree on the disposition of your assets
The trustee is the most important choice you can make when setting up your trust. A trustee has significant duties and there are many reasons to select a corporate trustee, like Wachovia. Among the most important is that a corporate trustee won't retire, move away, go on vacation, or succumb to the emotional appeal of a beneficiary, as an individual might. This is important when a trust can last for decades. Another benefit of a corporate trustee is that it can objectively balance the needs of multiple beneficiaries, which may be very different.
We provide access to one of the finest personal trust companies in the country. In this way, you can continue to rely on us as you always have for help in selecting and setting up a trust, and can also feel comfortable that we will stay involved in your trust.
Trust Services offered through Wachovia Bank, a national banking association (chartered by the Office of the Comptroller of Currency) and wholly owned subsidiary of Wachovia Corporation.
